The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community was struck by the recent news of Gordon Ryan’s health issues. The arguably best contemporary no-gi grappler had to take what’s, hopefully, going to be a short-term hiatus from competition, as his stomach issues have made it impossible for him to both compete and train at full capacity.
This is what he said about the issue on one of his Instagram posts:
Effective immediately, I will be taking a leave of absence from competition. My stomach is at a point now where I can’t train properly. It was always an issue, but it’s been progressively getting worse as time goes on.
Check out what Gordon had to say about his health problem on the post below:

Fortunately, however, it seems that more and more medical treatment possibilities are underway for Gordon’s health. In his recent Instagram post, Gordon explained that he was going to a new company, which reached out to him after he was on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. (Check it out here if you haven’t already).
Here, he has been granted a treatment, which seems to be working well:
This is what they gave me 3 weeks ago. While I’m still only around 50% of where I need to be (treatment takes 4-6 weeks to fully work, if it’s going to), I will say I am able to eat more than I have been in years. For the 1st time in 3 years I am able to somewhat enjoy a meal.
With the combination of multiple medications and types of treatments – such as Stem Cells, IGF-1 growth hormone treatment and ReVitamin – Gordon’s health, as he has said, been taking “a step in the right direction.”
