Gordon Ryan Mocks Nicky Rod After Loss to Victor Hugo: “So-Called Best Wrestler in BJJ Got Outwrestled by a Jiu-Jitsu Guy”

At UFC Fight Pass Invitational 10, Victor Hugo secured a dramatic overtime victory over Nick Rodriguez, finishing the match with a rear-naked choke. The result quickly sparked reactions from the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community, with none louder than Gordon Ryan, who took to Instagram to ridicule his longtime rival.

Ryan, known for his outspoken personality and ongoing feud with Rodriguez, didn’t hold back. He dissected Rodriguez’s performance, taking aim at his technical approach and claiming that his opponent attempted to imitate Ryan’s own signature style—without success.

Ryan’s Breakdown of Rodriguez’s Performance

In a series of Instagram stories, Ryan pointed out Rodriguez’s struggle to implement effective techniques, calling out his attempt at Ryan’s high head inside defensive style:

“To top it all off, the ‘body lock master’ who ‘never learned anything from me’ spent the whole match doing a sh*tty rendition of my high head inside camping,” he posted, adding laughing emojis to mock the effort.

Ryan didn’t stop there. He highlighted another moment in the match where Rodriguez seemed to struggle with Hugo’s rash guard during a key exchange:

“Ps- funny how easy his arm got trapped with long sleeve rash guards!”

The Final Blow: Calling Out Rodriguez’s Wrestling

The most biting comment came when Ryan addressed Rodriguez’s reputation as one of the top wrestlers in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He celebrated Hugo’s win by emphasizing how a non-wrestler outperformed Rodriguez in the very area he’s most known for:

A Rivalry That Keeps Growing

Ryan and Rodriguez have had a long history of jabs both on and off the mats, with Ryan frequently downplaying Rodriguez’s skills and contributions to the sport. This latest loss only added fuel to the fire, giving Ryan another opportunity to question Rodriguez’s legitimacy as an elite BJJ wrestler.

While Rodriguez remains one of the top competitors in the sport, his defeat at UFC FPI 10 has undoubtedly given Ryan the upper hand in their war of words—for now.
