Gordon Ryan Dominates Again At Inaugural Kasai

Kasai promotion was unveiled last night without much fanfare. Perhaps the biggest even of the evening was Gordon Ryan’s match against ADCC gold medalist Yuri Simoes.

What many might not remember is that Ryan came into the spotlight in the first place by defeating Simoes at EBI absolutes – prior to being the Royal of social media.

Even though in the grand scale of things Simoes won over Felipe Pena – Ryan’s nemesis, Simoes wasn’t able to equalize his score against Gordon Ryan.

To quote John Danaher:

Gordon Ryan capped off an incredible year in NYC tonight, defeating multi world champion and two time ADCC gold medalist Yuri Simoes by submission with just seconds left on the clock after a dominant display of reversals and guard passing pressure. This has been an amazing three weeks for Mr Ryan. In a three week spree he defeated Ralek Gracie, won EBI 14 and defeated a two time ADCC champion in a weight division above him.

Elsewhere Garry Tonon – now the MMA signed talent put on an interesting performance but in the end came up short against a strange format.  According to Kasai’s official rules:

All competitive bouts will use the IBJJF points system, but no advantages will be awarded and all submissions will be legal.

In the end Canuto won in the finals against Celso Vinicius
