Game Changing Arm-in Guillotine Set Up with John Kavanagh

Through the years there have plenty of debates on the right way to apply a guillotine choke. There are a variety of grips, variations and body type modifications that you can apply in order to get the most from this technique.

But now famed BJJ and MMA coach John Kavanagh shows some game changing details to setting up a super tight arm-in guillotine.

Kavanagh is the first ever Irish BJJ black belt and of course is known for being the coach of MMA superstar Conor McGregor.

Kavanagh is for the first time he’s giving his details on how to make this lethal technique more effective.

First Kavanagh shows how he favours a certain type of chin strap from the front headlock. He then pretends that he will run to the opponent’s back which then makes the opponent lift their arm to stop him. This means that he now has tricked his opponnet in to setting up the arm-in guillotine. He then likes to put his leg very high on the opponnent’s back, just under the lat.

The finishing detail is gold. He rests his his hands on his hips, so that when he lifts his hips, it puts more power in the choke. The winning detail is how he turns his wrist inside, as if he was looking at his watch. This is the last detail which will provoke the tap…
