Gabi Garcia Targeting A Belt in 2018, Likely Fight In July – Out of IBJJF Worlds 2018

Gabi Garcia recently had a rare joy – to fight someone close to her size and age. The over 100 kilogram MMA fighter and former bjj world champion is looking ahead in future after submitting the Russian combat champ Veronika Futina and a new fight might not be too far.

Garcia told Tatame how she even ended up at ROAD FC instead of Rizin:

I’m signed tom Rizin. ROAD FC contacted me to do this fight, and since I have an exclusive contract with Rizin, they contacted Rizin and they lent me. Probably, I’ll fight for Rizin again in the coming months, I talked to the president of the event and he wants me to fight on the July card. I want to fight as much as I can, whether in Rizin, ROAD or another event that gives me chances.

1 semana atrás eu estava dentro do octagon lurando. Hoje sábado eu terminei mais uma semana de treinos, vou correr agora para terminar meu cardio e descansar amanhã. Fuso, adrenalina, voltando aos poucos, porém não parei, sem lesões já estamos contando as semanas para a próxima luta. Obrigado coach @yoko_godzilla_hamamura @pointofimpactmma 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 1 week ago I was inside the octagon fighting in @roadfc @road_fc Today Saturday I finished one more week of training, I will run now to finish my cardio and rest tomorrow. Jetleg , adrenaline, i coming back slowly, but I don’t stopped, without injuries we are already counting the weeks for the next fight. And as far as IBJJF competition goes:

This year I was planning to fight the IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu because it’s been 10 years since my first black belt title, but I just did MMA, there’s no time to prepare for the girls who are coming now . I’d even like to be fighting, I have not even stopped to think about it yet, but it’s already in less than two weeks. I think it’s up to you, because my Jiu-Jitsu is even better than before (laughs), but I’m still going to fight another World Cup. I do not know if this year, next year, but I did not finish my career in the kimono yet. I owe this to my fans and also to bid farewell to the kimono competitions. I have not retired yet.

And as for MMA goals Gabi revealed:

“After almost three years and six fights, I’m feeling more mature and feeling more comfortable. What I want now is a belt in the heavyweight division. I think this is my next challenge, to participate in a GP and win a belt, that’s what I have in mind now.”
