“Dude’s a Joke”: Kron Gracie Disputes Chris Bones’ Claims Of Being A Rickson Gracie Black Belt

A new controversy is brewing in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world and this time it involves Kron Gracie, ADCC veteran Jeff Glover, and viral Instagram instructor Chris Bones.

Chris Bones has built a massive following online through his self defense focused jiu jitsu content, often criticizing modern sport BJJ and mocking techniques commonly used at the highest levels of competition. His videos regularly feature aggressive language, controversial takes, and dismissive comments toward modern competitive grappling.

While many fans appreciate his old school Gracie Jiu Jitsu style and confidence, others in the BJJ community have become increasingly frustrated with what they see as constant negativity toward sport jiu jitsu athletes.

The latest controversy exploded after Jeff Glover posted a clip targeting Chris Bones and questioning both his style and credibility.

In the post, Glover wrote:

“How about a no time limit sub only match to prove what’s a real thing or not?”

He then added:

“What’s this dude’s name? Doggy , any day of the week I’ll wreck this dude”

The comments section quickly erupted and one of the most notable responses came from Kron Gracie himself through his verified Instagram account “riokid.”

Kron commented directly:

“@jeffgloverbjj this dudes a joke”

Jeff Glover responded with raised hands emojis, appearing to agree with the statement.

Things escalated even further when another user asked Kron:

“didn’t your dad give him a black belt?”

Kron answered:

“no he was already a black belt for years in Australia, did a couple privates with my dad and claims he’s rickson black belt”

The exchange immediately triggered debate throughout the grappling community because Chris Bones publicly describes himself on Instagram as:

“3rd Degree Black Belt under Master Rickson Gracie and Professor Jason Roebig”

His profile also prominently features Rickson Gracie throughout his branding and promotional material.

Chris Bones has become one of the most polarizing personalities in online jiu jitsu. Unlike many modern instructors, he heavily promotes a traditional self defense oriented approach and frequently attacks what he calls “sport jiu jitsu nonsense.”

His videos regularly criticize berimbolos, inverted guards, lapel guards, and modern competitive techniques used by elite IBJJF and ADCC athletes.

Critics argue that he dismisses techniques proven effective in elite competition while rarely showing himself sparring live or competing. Others also point out that seminar footage often avoids hard rolling situations and instead focuses heavily on instruction and commentary.

Many people are also turned off by his delivery style, which frequently includes profanity, trash talk, and mocking language toward sport jiu jitsu practitioners.

At the same time, supporters believe he is helping bring attention back to the self defense roots of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and presenting techniques in a highly entertaining way.

One of the most vocal critics of Chris Bones has been Australian grappler Sebastian Attard, who has repeatedly posted parody and breakdown videos criticizing Bones’ instructional content and making fun of some of the techniques shown in his clips.

Those videos gained major traction online and helped fuel the ongoing divide between traditional self defense oriented practitioners and the modern sport jiu jitsu community.

Now, with Jeff Glover publicly challenging Chris Bones to a no time limit submission only match and Kron Gracie openly questioning his Rickson Gracie affiliation claims, the controversy has reached another level entirely.

At the moment, Chris Bones has not publicly responded to either Jeff Glover’s challenge or Kron Gracie’s comments.

But the situation has already captured massive attention because it touches on some of the biggest debates in modern jiu jitsu including lineage legitimacy, self defense versus sport BJJ, social media fame versus competition credibility, and what truly represents “real” jiu jitsu.

If a match between Jeff Glover and Chris Bones ever happens, it would instantly become one of the most talked about grappling matchups on the internet.
