Craig Jones On Mica Galvao’s IBJJF Ban: “I Would Have Failed The Drug Test Too”

Mica Galvao has tested positive for clomiphene, a banned substance – and has been stripped off his world title, as well as issued a ban from competing at IBJJF events for one year.

Craig Jones has decided to share his opinion on Galvao’s ban as well:

Just like I predicted: a young black belt world champion has failed his drug test. Obviously, a big surprise that a jacked 19-year-old vegan Mica Galvao has failed his drug test. He would’ve been the youngest black belt world champion in history.

He has failed [in testing] for clomiphene.

Clomiphene you take for only one of two reasons. The first being fertility – to knock up the missus…
And the second being trying to bounce back after a cycle and reignite some natural testosteron.

Jones also referred to Rener Gracie and his controversial testimony:

So, he’s failed for that. And he’s negotiated a one-year ban. Most of the time you get 3-4 years, sometimes up to 5 years.

As far as I know, he’s been able to secure Rener Gracie to provide expert witness testimony and negotiate USADA down to a one-year suspension.

Craig also said that he, too, would’ve failed the drug test if it came down to it:

So, obviously because he won and they are going to strip him of his gold medal, that means that Tye Ruotolo will now become the youngest black belt world champion in history.
Unfortunately for me, none of the times I won a silver medal, they drug-tested gold.

So, none of the times when I could’ve just easily jumped into the gold medal position, which really would’ve been perfect for me – because I would have failed the drug test too – but in most cases, they only test the gold medalist.

So, there is hope that I too will one day take the gold medal in the same fashion.
