Just day or two ago CM Punk was claiming he was 30 pounds overweight looking at the first weight cut of his life.
Cheal Sonnen was quick to condemn his odds and claimed:
“He’s not going to make it. Let’s say he said 30 pounds but it’s really 17 and that’s just his way of saying I’m way overweight. He’s not gonna make it… At the time he claimed he was 30 pounds he needs to be within 12 and 12 is pushing it. 12 is really pushing it for someone … He could do 12. Could. But Cutting weight is an art in it of itself….”
But the fight will go on.
CM Punk weighed in at 170 lbs while his opponent weighed in about half a pound more – 170.5 lbs.
The first question noticeably slimmer Punk was asked was a pointed “What was the last time you ate?” At which point he heartily laughed:
“It’s been a while. I feel like I’m lost at sea now. I think I might have scurvy from lack of food…”
The coaches trojan horse story is looking more likely. Perhaps the wrestling veteran is making a power pr move or waging psychological warfare.
Of course in addition to all this he also snubbed Mickey Gall’s hand shake attempt:
CM Punk was asked by interview Megan Olivi what Gall said and why didn’t he accept the handshake.
“I don’t know,” Punk said. “He was stuttering. He kept repeating, ‘Oh you don’t want to shake my hand, you don’t want to shake my hand’ or something like that. I’m not here to shake anybody’s hand. I’m here to punch people in the face.”
