If there’s one word that can describe Chael Sonnen, it would have to be: “original”.
Be it in the octagon, with trash talk or whatever else, Sonnen always had an ace up his sleeve.
And wouldn’t you know it… Back in the day, he used that same skill to meet his wife!
That is, he delivered a crafty pick-up line that got him her number.
“The American Gangster” shared the story in an interview with Ariel Helwani.
The moment he saw her, he knew that he had to meet her:
I went up to her and I said, can I use your phone? My phone is dead. I gotta make a phone call.
She loaned me phone, and I called myself.
My phone wasn’t dead. I felt it vibrate.I texted her back immediately and said: “Careful who you loan your phone to. There are a lot of crazies out there.”
Had the number. Took her out the next night, told her: “I’m gonna marry you!”

On the flip side, Sonnen recently also opened up about his PED use:
The training for that sport is so difficult… I used to wake up every morning, depressed knowing what I had to do that day before I get back to bed. It was the most defeated feeling…
I would go to bed sometimes, when I could barely get into bed – and then I’d get up the next morning and it was a distant memory [due to PED-induced recovery].
The recovery was incredible.
