The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community has once again been shaken by serious allegations involving a well-known competitor and coach.

Authorities in Brazil have issued a public appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of a BJJ instructor and World Championship medalist who is currently under investigation for multiple alleged sexual crimes involving students, including minors.

According to the Civil Police of Amazonas, the coach is being investigated for alleged sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, and the rape of vulnerable victims. The suspect, known within the local BJJ scene, has reportedly been the subject of numerous complaints from former students and their families.

Investigators allege that the instructor abused the position of trust he developed with athletes under his supervision. Several of the reported victims were allegedly minors at the time of the incidents.

Allegations Involving Students

According to statements cited by investigators, the coach allegedly offered rides home to students after training sessions and then transported some victims to motels against their will.

Authorities are also examining allegations that young athletes were taken to competitions and exposed to predatory situations involving sponsors during competition-related travel.

Police say multiple victims have come forward, and investigators are encouraging additional witnesses or victims to contact authorities as the case continues to develop.

Gifts Allegedly Used To Maintain Influence

One of the more disturbing details emerging from the investigation involves allegations that the coach provided victims with gis, belts, and other Jiu-Jitsu-related equipment following the reported incidents.

According to investigators, these gifts may have been used as a way to maintain influence over the athletes and discourage them from reporting the alleged abuse.

Police Request Public Assistance

The Civil Police of Amazonas has publicly asked anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to contact authorities through official reporting channels.

Investigators emphasized that all reports will be handled confidentially and that new victims and witnesses are still being encouraged to come forward.

A Troubling Pattern For Combat Sports

Cases involving coaches accused of abusing positions of authority continue to generate concern throughout combat sports. The close relationships that often develop between coaches and students can create environments where trust is easily exploited when proper safeguards are not in place.

As the investigation progresses, many members of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community are calling for stronger athlete protection measures, particularly for minors traveling to competitions and training under adult supervision.
