Brazilian Deputy Claims Melqui Galvão Called & Threatened His Students From Inside Prison

A disturbing new chapter has emerged in the Melqui Galvão case, with Brazilian reports alleging that the veteran BJJ coach managed to access a cellphone while in prison and used it to contact former students in an attempt to influence their testimony.

According to Brazilian BJJ media outlets including BJJ Cria and BJJ Bros, leaked video calls allegedly show Galvão speaking with athletes connected to his BJJ College project while being held in Manaus. The allegations are serious: that he attempted to pressure, manipulate, and even allegedly bribe former students into changing statements given to police in order to help him secure release.

Brazilian deputy Alessandra Campêlo publicly addressed the case, claiming that victims were allegedly being threatened through messages originating from inside prison. If confirmed, this would represent a major escalation in an already explosive scandal.

In the leaked audio, Galvão allegedly attempts to reassure and persuade the person on the other end of the call, making promises about support, career opportunities, and protection.

“If you stay with me, you’ll be honoring me.”

“Do you think I would talk to you like that? I would give my life for you.”

“Prison has a release date. A 30-day prison sentence… 30 days and you’re free.”

“Mica will help you.”

“We’ll sit down, organize everything, and not worry.”

“I’m going to help you get where you’ve never gotten before.”

Other alleged excerpts suggest he was trying to convince the person that his team and business structure would remain operational despite his imprisonment.

“The brand will continue.”

“Mica will help you.”

“Débora will bring your bag to Manaus.”

Brazilian reports claim the video call lasted over 20 minutes, with some saying nearly 30 minutes. Social media accounts reporting on the case allege Galvão offered financial support, continued training opportunities, and even academy backing in exchange for cooperation.

One Brazilian caption summarizing the allegations stated:

“Video shows Melqui Galvão making video calls for more than 20 minutes with athletes from BJJ College while he was imprisoned in Manaus. Throughout the call he threatens and blackmails them to change their testimony to help him get out of jail. He offers financial support in exchange for help, and even an academy.”

Another particularly chilling reported quote suggests emotional pressure:

“You need to talk with yourself. You don’t need anything else anymore. Just stay on the path.”

The allegations surrounding Galvão have already rocked the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world, with multiple accusers and growing scrutiny from authorities and the global grappling community.

If these new claims are verified, they could significantly worsen his legal situation, especially given the seriousness of allegations involving witness intimidation and obstruction.

For now, these remain allegations reported by Brazilian sources, and the full context and authenticity of the leaked material have not yet been independently confirmed.
