Body of Russian Wrestling Federation Vice President Adlan Varayev Found In Chechnya

Yesterday the body of Adlan Varayev, the first vice president of the Russian Wrestling Federation was found in a Chechen village. Varayev had been missing since the early May.

The info was confirmed by 3x Olympic Champion Buvaisar Saitiyev. Varayev went missing on May 3rd, after he fell into a river. Saitiyev said to TASS:

Varayev’s body was found today. He has identified by relatives,” Saitiyev said. “The search has not stopped since the day when it happened. Many people have been involved in the search, in difficult weather conditions, in a land-slide-prone area. Many have been hoping to find him alive.”

Varayev was 54 years old and he will be forever remembered as the first ethnic Chechen to win an Olympic medal. He had won silver in freestyle wrestling at Seoul Olympic Fames back in 1988. He was also a world champion in 1987 and the runner up in 1986.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
