Despite not having competed in a grappling match since 2007, the 44 year old former ADCC champion Demian Maia looked great this weekend at BJJ Stars.
He faced UFC welterweight and fellow BJJ black belt Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira.
Maia had a dominant performance. He pulled guard and swept Cowboy, eventually transitioning to the top position and transitioning to the mount. Maia’s last fight with the UFC was a unanimous decision loss against Belal Muhammed in June 2021 and he retired.
