Berkut 3  gathered some of the biggest names around in an East meets West grappling event yesterday(August 13th) in Grozny, Chechnya. The main event of this tournament is a fight between freshly retired Romulo Barral and Yuri Simoes. Other black belt fights on the same card are:

Romulo Barral and Yuri Simoes ended in Yuri’s win by judges decision.

Simoes said of his victory:

“It is my first time here, and I have been having a great time! I was able to do some sight seeing, catch up with old friends, and meet some new ones. Today was the Berkut 3. I fought the Legend @romulobarral. To me personally, as an athlete Romulo is someone I have always looked up to, loved watching, and aspired to reach his level of knowledge and talent. More importantly though, I admire the person Romulo is. As a father, husband, professor, and friend he is a class act. One of the best people I have met through jiujitsu, and just as I aspired to be like Romulo the athlete, I now strive to be more like Romulo the man. A real champion in life.”

Caio Terra took on Saadulaev and won via ref’s decision

When I first signed with Berkut to fight Yusup Saadulaev I knew it would be a huge challenge. Although not too many Jiu Jitsu fans knew my opponent I studied him a lot and he was as tough as he looked on film. During the match I looked for the submission, but more importantly I wanted to show the beauty of Jiu Jitsu. After all, this was a super fight and what makes this kind of event happen is the people subscribing and supporting it. I almost got the submission a bunch of times but my opponent resisted and didn’t tap. When the match was over I was very upset that the win came by decision. For my surprise, on my way to the locker room the crowd was cheering me. At first I thought they were just being polite. But then I remembered that all these people came here only to watch Yusup beat me. That’s when I realized I had just fought one of the toughest opponents of my carrer in front of his people and fans. It was a surreal experience! ACB league is announcing transformation of BERKUT BJJ to ACB JJ after its third event. New rules of ACB JJ will be announced soon. No doubt this is partially due to many ref decisions on this card.
