Beneil Dariush On How It Feels Training with World Class Jiu-Jitsu Champions

Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush will be fighting at UFC 289 in Canada, serving as the co-main event on June 10th. The main event of the night will be Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Peña in a bantamweight title bout. Due to injury, Oliveira was forced to withdraw from UFC 288, thus pushing back his match against Dariush until UFC 289.

In a recent interview on An0maly‘s YouTube channel, Dariush expressed his beliefs that he would be comfortable going to the ground with Oliveira despite his reputation for being a jiu-jitsu master.

Beneil Dariushis himself a high level BJJ black belt and has trained extensively with BJJ legends such as Romulo Barral, Edwin Najmi or Felipe Pena, but there there are levels to this game…

He stated:

“I train with a lot of jiu-jitsu guys who are better than him,” Dariush said. He went on to clarify that he wasn’t trying to belittle Oliveira, adding, “I mean it’s not like I’m trying to insult him or anything but these guys are world-class jiu-jitsu guys and I train with them and it’s awful man.”

Dariush defeated Tony Ferguson and nearly defeated Kron Gracie in a BJJ Gi Match.

He went on to discuss his humbling experience of training with world class jiu-jitsu fighters which could give him an edge against Oliveira in their upcoming match-up.

“They’re so good. It’s really humbling to be honest with you today. You know going into MMA practice against world-class guys and winning all your rounds and then you go into a jiu-jitsu practice and you do jiu-jitsu with the really good jiu-jitsu guys and you lose all your rounds. It’s very humbling.”

Ultimately, only time will tell if Dariush’s confidence is well founded or not.
