Andre Galvao considering retirement?

It was revealed today that Andre Galvao, 2016 Worlds winner in the Black Belt heavyweight division might be considering retirement. Flograppling confirmed in an interview with Galvao following his Jackson Sousa match.

Galvao was born on September 29th 1982 and is the same age as the retiring Romulo Barral who will not be competing at Worlds any more.

“I will think about it this week. My wife is already giving me a lot of advice and telling me it’s time to stop. But it’s something I have inside me that drives me a lot. I always like to challenge myself.”

Galvao has been actively competing since 2005. He is one of the esteemed GOAT club having conquered Worlds (3x), Pan Ams (8x) and ADCC (2x). At Worlds 2016 Heavyweight category was bound for a change since Xande Ribeiro was absent from the brackets. Andre Galvao took advantage of this opening and secured a victory, first over Cassio Francis in the semifinals then after Jackson Sousa via referee decision.
