A few days after hinting at the creation of a new academy under the name “Mika Jiu-Jitsu,” Mica Galvão has now released an emotional video statement explaining that the reality of the situation is far more complicated than many fans initially believed.
The young grappling superstar, who has remained mostly silent since the controversy surrounding his father and longtime coach Melqui Galvão exploded across the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world, finally addressed what is happening behind the scenes, including the future of the team, the athletes who trained under the Galvão banner, and the allegations that have shaken the community.
In the video, Mica first apologized for disappearing from social media and explained that he needed time away in order to stay close to his family during what he described as an extremely delicate moment.
He then revealed that he genuinely wanted to continue leading the athletes who had been left without a home after the collapse of the team structure around Melqui Galvão.
According to Mica, he felt a responsibility toward the athletes and families connected to the academy:
“I saw the families, the athletes, everyone needing a place to train.”
That sense of responsibility reportedly motivated him to begin planning a completely new project from scratch, one that many assumed would become “Mica Jiu-Jitsu.”
However, Mica admitted that after everything that has happened in recent weeks, continuing the project became “totally unfeasible.”
The statement appears to confirm that any immediate launch of a new team or academy is now effectively paused.
One of the most notable parts of the video came when Mica directly addressed the alleged victims connected to the case involving his father.
Rather than avoiding the subject, the ADCC and IBJJF world champion publicly expressed solidarity with the victims and offered his support:
“If they need me, I’m here giving my support.”
He also stated that he believes justice will ultimately prevail and acknowledged the seriousness of the moment.
The comments quickly spread throughout the grappling community, with many noting the difficult position Mica currently finds himself in, balancing loyalty to his family while also addressing the broader fallout affecting athletes, students, and alleged victims connected to the situation.
Despite shelving the project for now, Mica did leave the door open for the future.
He clarified that he is not ruling out eventually creating his own academy or brand someday, but emphasized that right now his focus is on protecting and caring for his family rather than building a new organization.
The situation surrounding Melqui Galvão continues to generate massive discussion within the BJJ community following allegations involving former students and reports that multiple alleged victims have come forward publicly.
The controversy has already had major ripple effects across the competitive scene, with uncertainty surrounding athletes, affiliates, and the future structure of the team.
For now, however, Mica Galvão appears to be stepping back from launching a new academy, at least until the dust settles surrounding one of the biggest controversies Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has faced in years.
Full statement:
“Hey everyone, good evening. First, I wanted to apologize to everyone for being kind of absent for a while. I needed to step away and stay close to my family, you know?
First of all, I have two things I want to say to you here.
The first thing is about how, as everyone knows, jiu-jitsu has basically always been part of my life. I think it’s still a huge part of my life. Looking at the situation and how our entire team became destabilized, I think it basically shut down, to put it that way.
I kind of wanted to take on that responsibility, to carry the team with me, because I saw the families, the athletes, everyone needing a place to train. And I wanted to start a project from scratch. But with everything that happened, it became completely unfeasible. It won’t be possible to continue with the project.
The second thing is regarding the victims. I want to express my solidarity with the victims. To say that if they need me, I’m here giving my support. If they need help with anything within my possibilities, I’m making myself available.
I believe in justice. I know this is a delicate moment, but I believe everything will eventually come to light and be resolved.
I also want to say that I’m not denying the possibility that, maybe someday in the future, I could have my own brand or academy. But right now, I don’t think this is the moment. Right now, the focus is more on taking care of my family.
And that’s it. I just wanted to bring this message to everyone who follows me, because I felt people deserved a response. I just needed some time to think about what I was going to say.
Thank you.”
