ADCC Hall Of Famer Vinny Magalhaes arrested for assault in Las Vegas

Vinny Magalhães, a former UFC fighter and ADCC Hall of Famer, has been arrested in Las Vegas for assault with a deadly weapon. The 40-year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, who also competed in MMA promotions like PFL, M-1 Challenge, and WSOF, faces serious charges that could result in up to 18 years of imprisonment if convicted.

Magalhães is accused of threatening three individuals during an altercation involving his ex-wife’s family. According to police reports, no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported during the incident. However, the charges include “assault with possession of a deadly weapon,” and the former fighter remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center without bail. His trial is scheduled to begin on December 23.

The situation has brought renewed attention to Magalhães’ career, which includes a professional MMA record of 19 wins, 12 losses, and 2 no-contests. He gained prominence as a finalist on The Ultimate Fighter 8 and had two stints in the UFC, although his tenure was marked by four losses and just one victory. Beyond MMA, Magalhães is a celebrated grappler, earning titles like the ADCC gold medal in 2011 and the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship in 2007. He was inducted into the ADCC Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Magalhães’ legal troubles also involve a protective order filed by his ex-wife, which is under review and could be extended. The case has drawn significant media attention due to his storied history in both MMA and grappling, highlighting the stark contrast between his athletic achievements and the allegations he now faces.
