ADCC 2024 Issues Additional Invites to Fill Spots Left by CJI Exodus

In a significant development for the upcoming ADCC 2024, organizers have announced four new invites to elite grapplers from around the globe. This move comes in response to the recent departure of several high-profile competitors who opted to join the Craig Jones Invitational (CJI), a burgeoning event promising transparency and a 1 million dollar grad prize as well as 10,001 dollars for every competitor.

Rumors swirl about other high-profile competitors potentially making the switch to CJI. Notably, rumors (from BJJEE’s trusted sources) have emerged regarding negotiations with legends like Kron Gracie, Buchecha, Makenzie Dern and even the legendary Marcelo Garcia to all compete in either the one of the brackets or in superfights.

ADCC 2024 has announced four new invites, adding elite talent to the roster.

Giancarlo Bodoni:

  • Reigning champion in the under 88kg division, Bodoni will return to defend his title. He made a stunning debut at ADCC 2022 by winning his weight class, a rare feat for a first-time competitor. Bodoni earned his initial invite by winning the ADCC North American East Coast Trials 2021 and now faces the challenge of defending his title against new Trials winners.

Mateusz Szczecinski:

  • Making his second appearance, Szczecinski had an impressive debut at ADCC 2022, where he went 1-1 in the under 77kg division. He made a notable impact by submitting William Tackett in the opening round. Szczecinski aims to build on this performance and prove himself among the world’s best.

Oliver Taza:

  • A seasoned competitor and Bodoni’s teammate, Taza will compete in the under 77kg division. Known for his podium finishes in ADCC Trials, Taza has won multiple medals in North American and European Trials over the last two years. He brings significant experience, having competed in ADCC 2017, 2019, 2022, and now 2024.

Nathiely De Jesus:

  • The only woman among the recent invites, De Jesus will compete in the over 65kg division. Returning to ADCC after her 2019 appearance, she has since become one of the top competitors in her weight class. De Jesus aims to secure her first ADCC title after missing the 2022 event.

These additions promise to bring excitement and high-caliber competition to ADCC 2024.

ADCC’s Response to the CJI Shift

The additional invites highlight ADCC’s commitment to maintaining a high level of competition and showcasing the best talent in the grappling world. With the Craig Jones Invitational attracting many elite athletes, ADCC’s move to invite these new competitors aims to ensure that the tournament remains as prestigious and competitive as ever.

These new additions are set to bring fresh dynamics and excitement to ADCC 2024, promising thrilling matchups and showcasing the depth of talent in the sport. Fans can look forward to witnessing high-caliber grappling action as these newly invited athletes prepare to make their mark on the ADCC stage.

Stay tuned for further updates as ADCC 2024 approaches, with anticipation building for what promises to be a landmark event in the world of competitive grappling.
