ACB Jiu Jitsu Changing Format To Super League as They Sign Buchecha, Rodolfo Vieira & More

Berkut has been the home of very good jiu jitsu since the very start. And more importantly they’re not afraid to toy with the format hoping to have the most exciting and best representative of grappling in the end.

Previously ACB Jiu Jitsu rules included:

Gi Submissions – IBJJF legal submissions and attacks (black belt)
No-gi Submissions – ADCC legal submissions and attacks
Matches had an initial period of 15 minutes of submission only. If draw there would be 5 min overtime with points.
1 point for takedown, back mount, full mount.
2 points for clear submission attempt.
No points for side control, knee on belly or sweeps.
If draw on scoreboard referee would decide if there is a clear victor.

The allowance of heel hooks is especially interesting given how some IBJJF scene competitors are unable to deal with it – notably Erberth Santos who was promptly heelhooked in the last ACB JJ edition.

The idea for a grappling league is based on the UFC format – a grappler is to climb the ranks through superfight style events ending up challenging the current title holder.

Further over the past couple of months Berkut managed to sign KEenan Cornelius, Leandro Lo, Braulio Estima, Rodolfo Vieira, Buchecha, Bruno Frazatto, Yuri Simoes, Lucas Lepri and Rudson MAteus.

Currently the event has 12 champions – 6 in gi divisions and 6 in nogi. They are as follows:

Augusto Tanquinho Mendes for the 60kg division

Paulo Miyao for the 65kg division

Marcio Andre for the 75kg division

Josh Hinger for the 85kg division

Felipe Pena for the 95 kg division

and the over 95 champion Vitor Honorio

GI Champions are:

Joao Miyao for the 60kg division

Paulo Miyao for the 65 kg division

Edwin Najmi for the 75kg division

Felipe Pena for the 95kg division

And Luiz Panza for the over 95
