There are many phrases that people use to indicate that something is troubling or bothersome. None are as common as the phrase “pain in the neck,” and that’s for a good reason. Millions of people deal with neck pain on a regular basis, and it can have a huge impact on your life.
If you’re dealing with neck pain, then you might be wondering what you can do to get rid of it. Exercises for your neck are a great place to start. Read on to learn about some great ones to try.
-
Side Tilt
Sometimes the root cause of neck pain is from tight muscles. The best way to counteract that pain is to ensure that your muscles are stretched on a regular basis. The side tilt will help you do just that.
Stand with your feet directly below your hips and your arms at your sides. Tilt your head toward your shoulder and try to reach it with your ear. Make sure not to bring your shoulder up to meet your ear.
Once you feel the stretch, stay in that position for approximately five to ten seconds and then repeat on the other side.
-
Shoulder Squeeze
Stretching isn’t the only way to relieve neck pain. Strengthening your neck helps, too. That’s where the shoulder squeeze comes in.
Stand straight up with your arms at your side. Squeeze your shoulder blades together and hold that position for five seconds. Release the squeeze and repeat ten more times.
If you feel any pain while doing this exercise, reduce the intensity of the squeeze until you’re more comfortable. Try doing this exercise two or three times per day to encourage good posture and reduce neck pain.
-
Prone Rows
Lay face-down on your bed, with your head at the corner and your arms dangling down. Lift your arms and bend your elbows at a 90-degree angle. Pull your arms back by squeezing your shoulder blades together.
Slowly return to the starting position and then repeat the exercises 15-20 times. You can do this exercise up to two times per day to improve the strength in your neck and upper back.
Between this and the shoulder squeeze exercises, you’ll have a stronger, healthier neck. If you want to take it up another notch, consider purchasing the neck shaper kit.
