2x ADCC Champ JT Torres Rolling with Chewy, The BJJ World’s Most Popular Youtuber

2x ADCC Champ JT Torres Rolling with Chewy, The BJJ World’s Most Popular Youtuber

“Sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail” is a very common saying in Jiu-Jitsu. In this case, the famous Youtube star Nic Albin aka ‘Chewy’ was the nail and 2x ADCC world was definitely the hammer.

Chewy is by no means a slouch. He is a legit 2nd degree BJJ black belt with a Wrestling background and also a very respectable BJJ competition record having medalled at a ADCC North American Qualifier and having won numerous IBJJF tournaments at black belt. However, this day he had a rock in front of him. JT Torres may be just 170 lbs, but his grappling strength is legendary. He had no problem nullifying the 200 lbs Chewy’s game and was able to do whatever he wanted with him.

Chewy is very humble and is realistic about his own level and how it compares to an elite grappler such as JT Torres. Many grapplers think that they’re good at BJJ until they experience training or competing with someone who is actually incredibly good at BJJ. For many, this is a brutal wake up call. They realize that there is a huge difference between good and great.

Chewy stated:

During the video you’ll see Jt Torres outwork me with his position and technique. I mean he’s in great shape for sure. But his positioning and technique were truly incredible. I was never able to put myself into a strong attacking position which put me on the defensive constantly.

I could have not posted this video but I think it’s important for transparency. Many of you follow me and look to me for answers to your Brazilian Jiujitsu questions. And I’m happy to share my ideas with you. But always remember that I’m on the same path you are. I’m trying to improve and be the best I can be. And sometimes I do great and other times I get mauled, like in this video. But I’ll keep going and doing my best to improve. And so should you!
