2023 CBJJ Brasileiros: Biggest Ever BJJ Competition in the World with 8,000 Competitors

When it comes to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, the most prestigious tournament in the world is the IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championships. After the IBJJF worlds a close candidate for second most prestigious is the AJP World Pro which is held every year in Abu Dhabi.

When it comes to the biggest tournament in the world, this year’s IBJJF (CBJJ) Brazilian Nationals aka the Brasileiros has broken the record by far, having a staggering eight thousand participants! There are also 14 mats running at the same time.

This Saturday 29th of April 2023, at Ginásio José Correa, in Barueri (SP), Brazil saw the start of the CBJJ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship – the main and most traditional Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Brazil. The competition, which runs until next Sunday 7th of May, where the champions in the sport’s elite, adult black belt as well as colored belts, juveniles and masters divisions.

This first weekend, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship will be reserved for children with competitions in juveniles 1 and 2. As of Monday (1), matches in the adult and master classes will begin. Next Saturday (6) and Sunday (7) the black belt disputes will take place.

Until this year, the World Pro Jiu-Jitsu championships in Abu Dhabi which is a 10 day event, had held the record for the biggest BJJ tournament in the world with 5,000 competitors from 100 countries . The third an d fourth biggest BJJ tournament in the world, are usually the IBJJF Europeans and Pan which average between 4,000 and 5,000 competitors every year.
