Here is the epic promo video of the newest league to come out: the creation of Rigan Machado and Mathew Tinley: the Jiu-Jitsu World League (JJWL)
Machado is a coral belt part of the famous Machado brothers and Tinley is a sports entrepreneur.
They want to revolutionize Jiu-Jitsu by changing the rules and paying the athletes.
Rigan told MMA Fighting:
“The problem we have is that the last 20 years, this sport has been amateur,” . “We are going to push to be more exciting, to have a chance to reach past the amateur level.
“I want this sport to be bigger, like any other sport.”
On January 15 JJWL will holds its first event in Irvine, California. The tournament, which will be exclusively in the gi, will offer two open divisions – one lighter, the other heavier – where the winner in each will claim $5,000 dollars.
10,000 $ prize money may seem like small change for the IBJJF or the World Pro who have offred much more money to their athletes this year. IBJJF has given back to its athletes in 2014 by offerering 4 Pro tournaments with 30,000$Prize money (just 1 in 2013). The IBJJF NY PRO even offered 30,000$ and World Pro has always offered big money (400,000$ in 2014).
