Jean Jacques Machado: ‘The Belt Cannot Be the Goal’

Jean Jacques Machado shares his philosophy of Jiu Jitsu. What’s more important than belt ranks, and how obstacles can be a motivation to become better… because in Jiu Jitsu, you will always find a way.

“Jiu Jitsu is much more than a sport, its a way of seeing life with better eyes”

Jean Jacques Machado –

You often hear the saying:

“A black belt is a white belt that never quit.”

For Machado the belt isn’t and shouldn’t be the goal of Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. Machado’s view on belts in BJJ is the complete opposite of one  BJJ academy in Texas, Team Pittman BJJ, which is promoting children to ‘Junior black belts’. Some are even 7th degree Junior BJJ black belts.
You can see on the wall of Pittman academy a huge sign written:

“The Goal is Black belt Leader”
