Andre Galvao On Why He Doesn’t Want to Rematch Ryron Gracie in Metamoris

Angelica and Andre Galvao joined Budo Jake at the “This week in BJJ studio”.

When Budo Jake asked him if he was interested in rematch with Ryron Gracie, Galvao said he wasn’t and he explained his reasons.

Metamoris did not use the points-for-position-improvements system used by major BJJ competitions. As a result, even though Galvao positionally dominated Ryron, the match ended in a draw.

Galvao wasn’t happy with the strategy of Ryron. Galvao even wrote on twitter then deleted the tweet:

“Everyone fought to win yesterday except one fighter. Congrats @metamoris event”.

How Andre felt is similar to how Royce Gracie (Ryron’s uncle) felt after his draw vs Ken Shamrock. Royce Gracie said ( after UFC 5 vs Shamrock ):

When the fight was over, he seemed satisfied with a draw. He can now brag “I fought to a draw with Royce Gracie.” For him, a draw with me is a victory. It’s sad, but you can’t fish a fish who doesn’t want to bait. And you can’t fight when your opponent doesn’t want to fight. –

Here is what Galvao said in the Budo Interview:
