36 Yr Old ADCC 2015 Champ Cobrinha: ‘I Feel Like a Rookie’

Rubens ‘Cobrinha’ Charles won the -66kgs weight division at ADCC 2015 on Sunday, just as he did two years ago in Beijing when he beat Rafael Mendes in that final.

In this year’s edition, “Cobrinha” beat Bruno Frazatto in the final.

Cobrinha is an inspiration, at 36 years old, keeps going and keeps winning against the young guns. Cobrinha started BJJ at 21 years old and amassed an impressive 4 world IBJJF titles.

He hasn’t stopped yet. He’s planning to defend his title in 2017.

He told Sherdog.com:

“The happiness of being ADCC champion is unique. People always ask me if I see myself as a veteran, and yes, I have been competing for several years, but I feel like a rookie. I train as hard as anyone, and that’s what makes me feel good. I’ve trained seven hours a day during my camp to come here and do exactly as I did.”

“I’m on a good diet, I’m feeling well, and if I manage to cut the weight well, I might be back in two years to defend my title.”
