2015 Worlds: Monique & Bernardo in Absolute Final, Mahamed Aly Brown Belt 2x Gold

2015 Worlds: Monique & Bernardo in Absolute Final, Mahamed Aly Brown Belt 2x Gold

The final of absolute adult black belt at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championships will have a historical significance. For the first time, a non-Brazilian has reached the final: Denmark’s Alexander Trans. He will face the Brazilian Bernardo Faria in the search for the title on Sunday (31st).

Alex Trans reached the final without actually fighting in the semis. He met Ricardo Evangelista, who had eliminated the overwhelming favorite Marcus “Buchecha” . As usual in Jiu-Jitsu, training partners do not face. So the two, who train together in Abu Dhabi, decided that Trans would be the finalist.

In the other semifinal of the absolute, Bernardo Faria submitted Leandro Lo with an armlock and secured his place in the final. The fighter from Alliance, who has been twice world champion in weight, is chasing his first title of the competition at all.

Among women, Alliance stars Monique Elias and Dominyka Obelenyte are both in the absolute final. The Brazilian defeated the defending champion Bia Mesquita by 2-0 in the semis, while the Lithuanian beat Mackenzie Dern 1-0.

As Monique and Dominyka train under the same team: Alliance, it remains to be seen whether they will fight on Sunday or will close.
