A friendly surf and Jiu-Jitsu competition was held last Saturday under the First International Jiu-Jitsu and Surf Camp . BJJ athletes from California, Brazil and Panama competed in a friendly surf open organized by Discovering Surfing Talents .
Perhaps the best example of world class surfer that is also a BJJ black belt is Joel Tudor. The multiple times world longboard champion is also a world class BJJ athlete having competed in the ADCC and worlds on multiple occasions.
Surfing legend Kelly Slater is also a BJJ blue belt that trains regularly.
The Bintang Black Belt Challenge surfing competition is another example of the two arts collaborating. It’s a surf and BJJ competition exclusively reserved to BJJ black belts, and is invitation only.
World class BJJ black belts such as Ricardo Arona or Leonardo Leite compete on BJJ matches on the beach and surf afterwards.
