UPDATE: Tonon To Face Antonio Carlos ‘Shoe Face’ at SUG 3

UPDATE:

In a surprising development MMA promotion Bellator has decided to pull Chael Sonnen from a match in his own grappling promotion set to take place later this month (29th January 2016).

Sonnen was supposed to fill in for Hector Lombard who pulled out of the fight to focus on his upcoming fight in the UFC against Johny Hendricks.

Now Tonnon has a new opponent: Antonio Carlos “Shoe Face”. Carlos competes in the Middleweight division of the UFC. A professional MMA competitor since 2013, “Cara de Sapato” is a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt and multiple champion in jiu jitsu, Carlos was World Cup Champion in 2006 (at blue junior) and 2x World Champion in 2010 (weight & absolute at brown belt) and Pan champion at black belt. He is the winner of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 Heavyweight tournament.

He has beaten Bernardo Faria, Leandro Lo, and Romulo Barral….ALL TWICE.

History behind his nicknanme ‘Cara de Sapato’:  Shoe face as in ugly. Even though “cara” means “guy” colloquially, it also means “face”, which would make more sense in this nickname, since if it was supposed to be “guy”, it should be “cara ‘do’ sapato”
