Top Brazilian Taekwondo Athlete Mocks Anderson Silva’s Olympic Bid

Anderson Silva has made an official request to the president of the Brazilian Confederation of Taekwondo expressing his intents on competing in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Anderson is a 5th degree black belt in Taekwondo, as well as a black belt in Judo and 3rd degree black belt in BJJ.
He began training Taekwondo at 14 and at 18 was already black belt.

Brazilian Taekwondo federation president Carlos Fernandes said that Silva competing at the Olympics would be a “magnificent possibility”.

Guilherme Cezario Felix, the Brazilian national team’s top Taekwondo athlete at heavyweight (Anderson’s Taekwondo weight class) had this to say about the MMA star’s Olympic bid.

Felix wrote on his FacebookGlobo):

“Let’s stop kidding. Myself and most of the tae kwon do athletes are fed up with this thing about Anderson Silva trying to apply for the Olympic Games”.

“He can try just like anyone who is officiated by the regulations can. Many people are taking this very seriously, but I don’t think this is more than a joke, some kind of personal marketing. Everybody is putting it carefully, but I’m tired. I have nothing against him, I don’t even know him personally, but this is a laughing matter. If he really wants to apply for the spot, then let him come. It’s his risk and I think he’ll have to really prepare if he doesn’t want to embarrass himself. I’m looking forward to it. There won’t be any more jokes or games about it.  There, I said it.”

2x Pan American champion Diogo Silva blaims the Brazilian TKD federation:

Silva told MMAFighting.com:

“CBTKD is thinking about the money that might come and who can benefit from it,”  “Anderson’s image is very profitable, he’s the best MMA fighter of all time.”

“CBTKD announced in 2015 their rules for the 2016 Olympics. The fighters among the 20 best in the world would have the privilege to be selected to the Olympics. The heavyweight division was selected to represent the country, and athletes have seven months to qualify under the rules, starting now. We don’t want the Olympics to become commerce. That would be like me going to MMA and fighting for the belt without going through the necessary trials. We are talking about a lot of people’s sacrifices and dreams. The line must be respected.”

Anderson is already training:

Anderson Silva already training for Taekwondo Olympic bidAnderson Silva already training for Taekwondo Olympic bid”Guys I know that Iam completely out of form, as I haven’t trained for manny years, but Iam trying, and because of that Iam working very hard to get the rhythm back and do my best, because if I don’t do this, I will never know if I really can make it. I will train very hard like I always did and try to get a spot in the Olympics . Iam in another level, will need lots of work as the Olympic athletes are mainly super athletes , that are years ahead of everyone , but yes, I will leave my comfort zone and TRY!!! The worse that could happen is for me not to get a satisfactory result, but at least I will be sure that I tried!”
