Rumors of Buchecha Planning To Sue Metamoris Put Headliner in Peril

Rumors about Metamoris 7 headliner Marcus Buchecha Almeida planning to sue the troubled promotion have been floating around for the past few days now. Buchecha is planned to face Roger Gracie in the rematch of their Metamoris 1 superfight.

This Saturday, BJJEE journalists were present at UFC Zagreb and according to sources close to Buchecha and Roger Gracie, the word is that Buchecha is going to sue the promotion for having promoted the event and having used his image without his agreement.

Last week, reports emerged confirming the rumors that Marcus Buchecha was asking to be paid up front by Metamoris, following the promotion’s history of non payment of athletes.

15 days ago, Metamoris stated advertising a match up between Marcus Buchecha and Roger Gracie at a planned Metamoris 7 event, despite the fact that they hadn’t reached an agreement with Bucheca and he hadn’t signed up yet. BJJEE found out from sources close to Buchecha that he was asking for money up front.

Roy Bilington, Grappling editor for leading MMA/Grappling website BloodyElbow, has said that he heard the same story coming from people close to Buchecha:

Marcus Buchecha is Back from his serious knee injury that kept him out of jiujitsu competition since June.

He has confirmed that he is aiming to compete at World Pro in April and Worlds in June.

Buchecha told Graciemag.com that the World Pro and IBJJF Worlds are his goals.

The champion has two competitions in mind for his return: the 2016 WPJJC and the 2016 Worlds. then, he’ll continue his transition to MMA. “I have already started to prepare in Brazil and very soon I will return to California to complete my camp under Leo Vieira, at Checkmat HQ. Then, it’s off to Abu Dhabi to defend my titles.”

Regarding another news that broke this week, Buchecha’s press team confirmed GRACIEMAG.com that he is in talks with Metamoris for a rematch against Roger Gracie, but nothing was signed yet. According to his press team, Buchecha wants the match up, but has not reached an agreement with the event to make the fight happen.

Things get more complicated. 2 days ago, news broke out that Roger Gracie is going to fight in MMA at One Championship: Ascend to Power, on May 6, in Singapore.

With the MMA fight being at 185 lbs and the Metamoris event being 2 months after, it now seems improbable that Gracie would recover in time from the stress of preparing from an MMA fight to face the greatest current BJJ competitor , Marcus Buchecha at over 100 kgs, if ever Metamoris were to take place.

Tim Spriggs who is set to face none other than Ralek Gracie, has also confirmed that he hasn’t signed any contract and had just been asked if he was interested.

Metamoris announced Roger vs. Buchecha as the main event of Metamoris 7, to be held in LA, on July 17.

The professional grappling promotion, Metamoris, and most notably its founder Ralek Gracie has been under fire for the past few months for various reasons.

The main ones are:

-Scheduling events on the same weekend as EBI and the same day as Copa Podio
-Disrespecting Female Competitors
-Untrustworthy Online Site and Automatic Renewals
-Not paying Metamoris Challenger/Underground Competitors, and staff.

Despite all the backlash, Metamoris has just announced a mega event for July 17th at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles! METAMORIS 7: GRACIE VS BUCHECHA 2 in hopes to be able to repay its debts and keep the company affloat.
