Rousimar Palhares (18-6) retained his WSOF welterweight belt, submitting Jake Shields (31-8-1) with a kimura in Round 3.
The win was controversial as Palhares continued to crank the submission as Shields was tapping repeatedly and referee Steve Mazzagatti tried to pry the Brazilian fighter off Shields. Palhares let go of the hold but Shields was so angry that he even tried to punch Palhares after the stoppage.
Palhares is in big trouble as evidence of eye gouging has been established and he is facing a possible stripping of his WSOF title.
To make matters worse, several MMA fighters are calling for a lifetime ban for the notorious Brazilian submission expert.
However looked like 3-4 seconds after shields started tapping. https://t.co/ndSEB8OJWS

This is uncalled for.. Not the first time he's held onto a submission while his opponent has tapped http://t.co/655afXkGZN

The 6th time Palhares held a submission past the tap. He should be banned, or at least given a lengthy suspension. pic.twitter.com/vLbo43DdTC

At this point of his career @ToquinhoMMA should be banned from MMA for life. Cheater at every opportunity. Major officiating error. #WSOF

Man, I just keep thinking about what might of happened at the Sheilds fight if the Diaz bros hadn't been kicked out of the arena already.
