Gabi Garcia To Focus On Jiu-Jitsu, Postpones MMA Debut at Jungle Fight

 

 

 

Having not competed at the Jiu-Jitsu world championships last year because of an injury, Nine times World BJJ champion Gabi Garcia has major plans for 2015. The Alliance Jiu-Jitsu athlete will competed at Europeans las month, and ended up getting the double gold. which will be held between the 21st and 25th of this month in Lisbon, Portugal.

Gabi Garcia will be competing at the Pan American Championships of Jiu-Jitsu , which takes place in Irvine, California, between the 11th and 15th March. She was planning to make her much awaited MMA debut on March 28th in Sao Paulo but according to MMAfighting, the fight is off.

Jungle Fight president Wallid Ismail confirmed the news to MMAFighting.com:

 

The nine-time jiu-jitsu world champion and two-time ADCC gold medalist signed a contract with Brazilian promotion Jungle Fight to fight on March 28 in Sao Paulo, but decided to postpone her MMA debut to a future date.

 

Jungle Fight, the No. 1 MMA promotion in Brazil, will start drug testing fighters this year. Longtime MMA promoter Wallid Ismail told MMA Fighting that two fighters will be randomly selected to do the test after every event, starting on March 28. Ismail will do it even though he expects to lose a lot of money with it.

Last December Gabi said that she had signed with a Brazilian MMA organization and that she plans on fighting in Brazil in March 2015:

“The deal is almost closed, but unfortunately, I can not talk about it now. Good news will come soon, I can tell you. I won’t be debuting in MMA this year, because we are already at the end of 2014. I can say that my debut will be next year in Brazil. Around March.”

 

Gabi has yet to release a statement. Let’s wait and see what happens.
