Gabi Garcia on Europeans Next Week & MMA in March: ‘In the Best Shape of my Life!’

Having not competed at the Jiu-Jitsu world championships last year because of an injury, Nine times World BJJ champion Gabi Garcia has major plans for 2015. The Alliance Jiu-Jitsu athlete will compete in the Europeans next weekend, which will be held between the 21st and 25th of this month in Lisbon, Portugal, and plans to make her much awaited MMA debut in March.

She told Tatame, how motivated she is to step back on the mats especially since she has majorly slimmed down in the past year with a new training regimen:

“I’m super excited for the European. It’s been a long time since I haven’t competed, but I’ve been training a lot and did not even have any vacation. I know girls who will fight there, and many are coming out to get my place. The girl who won the World last year in my category (Venla Luukkonen from Finland) will be there, then, there is more a motivation for me. From the Europeans, it will be a new Gabi, a new phase. I’m in the best shape of my life, I am a new athlete now! “

Last December she said that she had signed with a Brazilian MMA organization and that she plans on fighting in Brazil in March 2015:

“The deal is almost closed, but unfortunately, I can not talk about it now. Good news will come soon, I can tell you. I won’t be debuting in MMA this year, because we are already at the end of 2014. I can say that my debut will be next year in Brazil. Around March.”
