World Record for Largest Jiu-Jitsu Class: 3,500 Students in UAE

 

Abu Dhabi, 22nd November 2015: The world’s largest martial arts class (Jiu-Jitsu) will be conducted in Abu Dhabi on 25th November 2015 coinciding with the National Sports Day and marking UAE’s 44th National Day. The event is organised by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) and the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), and in partnership with Palms Sports. The event will be attended by the Guinness World Records committee and will witness the participation of 3,500 jiu-jitsu pupils from Abu Dhabi schools.

Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most popular sports in Abu Dhabi schools. While the UAE is home to many Jiu-Jitsu Asia and world champions and a host to numerous Jiu-Jitsu world tournaments, which contributed to transforming the UAE into a world leader in jiu-jitsu with developed and integrated infrastructure which includes training camps under the supervision of professional Jiu-Jitsu trainers aiming to develop the skills of players of all age groups, enhance their techniques and abilities to compete in world tournaments.

“We have chosen to organise this event to coincide with the National Sports Day to assert the UAE’s leading role in promoting Jiu-Jitsu and its values, and to celebrate the spirit of the union expressed in the UAE’s 44th National Day. We have been inspired by our wise leadership’s vision to promote and drive the motivation to Be the Best by attempting to set a new world record for the UAE. We have promised, at the start of the Jiu-Jitsu 2015/2016 season, all Jiu-Jitsu fans a surprise and true to our promise we are organising the world’s largest martial arts class for them,” said HE Abdulmunem Al Hashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-jitsu Federation.

“We are extremely proud at the participation of 3,500 pupils from various schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in this world’s largest Jiu-Jitsu sporting event. Jiu-Jitsu sport has always enjoyed the utmost support and encouragement from our wise leadership, and we, in the Abu Dhabi Education Council and in partnership with other organisations concerned, have always striven to provide all the necessary support and facilities to promote this game and build UAE world champions,” said Mr Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations Sector.

Commenting on their participation in organising the event, HE Hamad Al Shamsi, Board Member, Palms Sports said: “It is our utmost pleasure to undertake this historical event of conducting the world’s largest martial arts class. An invitation has been extended by the event’s organising committee to Guinness World Records committee to attend the martial arts class in order to ensure the fulfillment of the qualifying standards to certify a world record for the highest number of participants.

The event’s activities will also include the operetta “Lead Nation” celebrating UAE’s history, heritage, and the founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as well as highlighting the country’s achievements and leading position in different fields. The operetta is also part of the celebrations marking UAE’s 44th National Day. 700 pupils from schools across Abu Dhabi will take part in the operetta.

“The ‘Lead Nation’ operetta embodies the UAE’s festive spirit as it celebrates its national day. While the title, ‘Lead Nation’, resonates with the aim to set world records and be at the top not only in Jiu-Jitsu but in other cultural, sports and scientific areas. In organising this operetta we aim to encourage our pupils to participate in extracurricular activities, to enhance their confidence, their spirit of cooperation and teamwork, as well as their oratory and performance skills,” said Mr Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri.

The Jiu-Jitsu class and the “Lead Nation” operetta will be held on 25th November at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in the presence of a number of government officials and officials from the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and other organisations, as well as families of the participating pupils and the general public.
