Werdum Bout Scheduled For UFC 216

In an interesting turn of events Fabricio Werdum will be next dueling the un-retired and often hilarious Derick Lewis.

Lewis announced retirement earlier in the year following a loss from Mark Hunt. He has since said that was a spur of the moment statement:

“We’re just hoping that we don’t have to get surgery, because I thought about it a little bit, and it’s not going to be my last fight,” Lewis said on The MMA Hour. “I’m going to try to get back in there as soon as I can, and we’ll find out Wednesday, see what’s going on and if it’s not too serious. Hopefully I can get back in there before the end of the year.”

Now he’s got a new fight scheduled.

Come October Lewis will be dueling the former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. Werdum recently got a majority decision loss in match against Alistair Overeem at UFC 213 in July. Before that, he defeated Travis Browne by unanimous decision, bouncing back from his May 2016 loss to Stipe Miocic.

  • Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee – for interim lightweight title
  • Will Brooks vs. Nik Lentz
  • Bobby Green vs. Lando Vannata

  • Magomed Bibulatov vs. John Moraga
  • Marco Beltran vs. Matt Schnell
