US Marine Gets Surprise Purple Belt Rolling w/ BJJ World Champion

US Marine Lieutenant Colonel Ed Bitanga got his new purple belt by surprise during his rolling with Prof. Alexandre Soca!

Ed Bitanga has been training with Soca Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has simultaneously run a Jiu Jitsu training program at the “War Room” at the Marine Corps Headquarters in Garden City. Students from Soca BJJ alongside Marines are training together and learn new techniques to help each other increase their ground combat abilities.

Alexandre Freitas, commonly known as Alexandre “Soca”, was considered by many as the king of Jiu Jitsu’s super-featherweight division in the late 1990’s early 2000’s. Alexandre “Soca” conquered numerous BJJ and submission wrestling competitions including the prestigious Abu Dhabi Combat Club tournament (ADCC), arguably the most prestigious grappling trophy in the world.
