14.Mauricio Mattar

Mauricio Mattar is a brazilian actor. He is a black belt under the Gracie Barra banner.

13. Rhasaan Orange

Rhasaan Orange  is an American actor. Orange is most well known for his portrayal of Detective Thomas Edward ‘Tek’ Kramer on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives. As a child, he appeared on the PBS children’s series Sesame Street.

Orange is also a student of Eddie Bravo and was promoted to black belt in 10th planet Jiu-Jitsu (No Gi).

12. Randy Couture

UFC legend, Randy Couture was awarded a ‘No Gi’ black belt following his win over Boxing champion, James Toney at UFC 118 by his grappling instructor Neil Melanson. Many questioned why Couture would get a black belt for a submission against such a novice in grappling as Toney. Neil Melanson explained that he doesn’t train Jiu-Jitsu but is a student of Karo Parisyan and that he has his own belt system that is a copy of the BJJ belt system.

11. Kazushi Sakuraba

Later in his career, he also learned Brazilian jiujitsu with the Gi under Cristiano Marcello in Chute Boxe and Sergio Penha in the Takada Dojo, but he never got ranked in Jiu-Jitsu. Saku was presented with a honorific BJJ black belt by Cristiano Marcello, which he humorously would confess in an interview that he never learned quite how to tie.

10. Richard Norton

 

Norton is an Actor, Stuntman and a Martial artist. He is a long time black belt under Jean Jacques Machado. You can check out his imdb credits spanning from 1980 till present day here.

 

9. Scott Caan

Scott Caan famously starred in the remake of 1960s rat pack classic Ocean’s 11 (and subsequent sequels). When he’s not starring in his CBS procedural Hawaii 5-0 he’s doing jiu-jitsu under the guidance of Egon Inoue of Grappling Unlimited. Scott quite dedicated he has been doing bjj for over 15 years.

Sean Patrick Flanery of Bondock Saints is quite into bjj. In fact he’s one of the rare members of our list who also instruct in addition to having sufficient skill to hold down a black belt.

 

 

 

7. Paul Walker

Walker died in a tragic accident back in 2013. At the time he was a brown belt but he was awarded his black belt posthumously by Ricardo Franjinha Miller of Paragon Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu.

 Rikki Rockett, is an American drummer for glam metal band, Poison. The 51 year old drummer famously stays in shape by doing BJJ.

5. Chuck Norris

 

Chuck Norris is a legend that knows no bounds. Regardless of where you’re from, odds are you’ve seen his movies and are a fan. This inspired a series of Chuck Norris jokes but what most of those jokesters don’t know is that Chuck is one of the rare few who got the chance to meet and get instructed by the late patriarch of the Gracie family – Helio Gracie. 4. Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan is a long term fan of martial arts but he’s been an actor and a stand up comedian for a number of years back. In addition to commenting for the UFC and the extremely popular podcast he does – Joe Rogan Experience, you could also spot him on MeatEater, The Man show and most notably a cult classic NewsRadio. Joe got his 10th planet black belt from his longtime friend and fellow Jean Jacques Machado student Eddie Bravo and his (gi) black belt from Jean Jacques himself:

 

 

3. Clark Gregg

Clark Gregg is currently at comicon promoting his Agents of Shield role – Agent Coulson. Prior to his lucrative Marvel universe role anyone knows him for he starred in  Brett Easton Ellis adaptation Choke, many high profile gigs including one starring a previous member of our list – Sean Patrick Flannery. The two worked together on the set of The Young Indiana Jones way back in 1992. Here’s Clark goofing off with a statue of Captain America:

 

 

2. Ed O’Neil

 

Ed is a must have on this list. His professional success is only paralleled with his dedication to martial arts. Ed is a black belt under Rorion Gracie – The only Rorion black belt besides his sons. In his career Ed went from one successful long-running sitcom to another. While most remember him for his iconic role as Al Bundy, the new generations know him as Jay Prichett on the Emmy Winning Comedy Modern Family.

Guy Ritchie is the iconic director behind many cult hilts stretching from the 90s. He directed many successful feature films including Lock, Stock and Two smoking barrels, Brad Pitt vehicle Snatch, dynamic action packed RocknRolla and the latest version of Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. Ritchie has been training for a number of years, having spent 7 years as a brown belt before finally getting his black back in 2015 from Renzo Gracie. He is currently awaiting the premiere of his latest flick starring Sons of Anarrhy’s Charlie HunnamKing Arthur.
