Rafael Dos Anjos Confirms He Passed Out For 3 Minutes Prior To UFC Fight Against Alvarez

Rafael Dos Anjos recently changed weight categories with the UFC. This comes following losing the lightweight title to Eddie Alvarez and subsequent decision loss to Tony Ferguson.

Dos Anjos will be fighting in the Welterweight class in the future because he’s had a lot of issues cutting weight, even going so far as to faint for 3 minutes prior to Alvarez bout.

Dos Anjos confirmed as transcribed on sherdog:

“I passed out in the bathtub, in the hot tub. I was out for like almost three minutes,” recalled dos Anjos. “My coaches were about to call 911 and cancel the fight because I was out on my bed, and they put some ice on my chest, and then I woke up and stayed on my bed for one hour.”

Still bjj black belt wouldn’t refuse the fight and made weight July 6th 2016.

“We thought about cancelling the fight but I’m a fighter, I don’t wanna upset the fans, but thinking back right now, I shouldn’t make that fight because today guys all the time kind of don’t fight because they have weight problems.”

In the same division Khabib Nurmagomedov had many issues making weight even going so far as to cancel his bout with Tony Ferguson due to a health emergency.

Dos Anjos has a pretty big walking around weight prior to making welterweight cut:

“195,” he said, when asked by Ariel Helwani how much he weighs currently. Apparently, however, this rather bulky amount is not due to his looming welterweight debut. instead, this is pretty standard for him between fights. “Usually [this is where I start],” he said. “Usually I get [up to] 200 pounds, but I’ve been training for over a month. Actually, I don’t stop training. I’m always training. But as I trained, I had to diet really hard, because as much as I trained, my body would hold more water. Everything that I ate, my body kept. That’s why I decided to go up a weight [class]. My body holds too much weight.”

Dos Anjos will be making a welterweight debut against Tarec Saffiedine whose recrod stands at 16 victories and 6 losses.

Indeed Alvarez feels much better since making the weight category switch

Rafael Dos Anjos’ UFC welterweight debut will occur at UFC Fight Night 111, this June 17 in Singapore.
