Mackenzie Dern is preparing hard for the Europeans. She reportedly decided late she wanted to sign up for Europeans and to keep her IBJJF ranking spot – no#1!
Dern has been preparing in Brazil with the help of Chico Salgado among others. And she’s been killing her free time going to dancing classes with Rickson Gracie’s daughter Kauan.
“I’m the 2016 European champion so I’m gonna try and keep that title. There’s a lot of new brown belts that just became black belts so I’m gonna try and go for the absolute” – Dern said to flograppling.

Dern continued:
“I kind of won a lot of the titles that I won in my weight division so my goal really is to win absolute. I even was thinking about going up one weight class, you know, lightweight but I see Leandro Lo doing that changing his weight divisions all the time…
I’ve accomplished a lot of the things in featherweight but with me fighting MMA it’s better to keep my weight low and be a little bit faster. I think that’ll be kinda my advantage fighting absolute is my goal. My 2017 goal is to win more absolute divisions. “
In addition to all of this Dern is expecting a deal for an MMA bout will come through for March 10th!
