Kayla Harrison’s Emotional Retirement Video Delivers Sharp Punches, Criticised New Judo Administration

Kayla Harrison has just shared a very interesting video detailing her departure from the world of judo. Harrison appears to be heavily underwhelmed with the approach the new USA Judo Administration has. Just listen to her tell it:

Harrison will be focusing on MMA in future. She is currently signed to the World Series OF Fighting which is transitioning into a Pro Fight league which will include monthly salaries to fighters.

As far as mma transition goes Harrison is quoted saying:

“I do a lot of hip throws, uchimata or harai goshi, and those work without the gi,” Harrison said. “It’s what I’m known for in judo. For eight years, I’ve been practicing uranage, which is kind of like a big pro wrestling throw. I’d love to Rock Bottom somebody. That could happen if someone tries to clinch with me, which I don’t see happening. But we’ll see. This is all just speculative. I have no idea what will happen.”

When she’s not training, Harrison is  touring the country as a public speaker on sexual abuse. At age 16, she revealed she had been sexually abused by her judo coach.

Training tip #5: Always make sure you have the best gear. And try not to make silly faces. #fuji #wsof

She had previously spoken about it to ESPN prior to the Olympics:

AG: You’re both alluding here to the years of sexual abuse you suffered at the hands of your former coach, who is currently serving 10 years in prison for the crime.

KH: Sexual abuse is such a difficult subject because it does things to the mind and to the development of a young person that you can’t really see. There are no scars on me, there’s no injury, you can’t physically see that I’m wounded. But when you’re 10 or 12 years old, and you go through something like that, it changes you. It changes you as a person. It leaves scars all over your heart.

AG: What gave you the courage to finally come forward?

KH: When you live a lie, when you lie to the people who are closest to you day in and day out, it eats away at you. I was at the point where I was ready to run away, I was ready to kill myself, or I was going to have to say something.
