Jordan Burroughs May Wrestle For Iranian Team At Clubs Cup

Burroughs is perhaps the most recognizable wrestler in the United States however it looks like he’ll be taking his likeness to Iran – competing for the best club in the traditionally wrestling crazed country.

According to a report from Iran Sports Press, Burroughs is in negotiations to wrestle for Iranian club Bimeh Razi at the upcoming World Wrestling Clubs Cup on Dec. 7-8.

Bimeh Razi’s manager Kiumars Mehrabi was quoted in the Iran Students News Agency (ISNA) as saying:
“We hope that Burroughs will represent Bimeh Razi in the World Wrestling Clubs Cup. Burroughs likes Iran very well, and we are sure that he will receive a warm welcome when he arrives in our country.”

Last year Iran was facing US at the Freestyle Wrestling world cup. They faced each other in a dual during the qualifiers with the meet resulting in a drawn. Ultimately Burroghs’ absence (due to the birth of his daughter) meant a victory brought by Hassan Yazdani who defeated Alex Dieringer in the dual’s 74kg match. This meant Iran got to move into the finals.

Iran defeated Russia in finals and earned 5th straight Freestlye World Cup title. USA ended up 4th because they lost 3rd place dual to Georgia.
