IJF Officially Announces Names of Athletes Going to Rio 2016 Olympics

 

 

Following the ending of the World Judo Masters in Guadalajara, Mexico International Judo Federation has confirmed the official list of athletes who will be participating in this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.

 

Judo-Ready-for-Rio

A number of athletes was granted the right to participate with”direct qualifications accounting 12 of their best results over the last 2 years plus the athletes qualified on the continental quota and of course 20 “Universality places”.

In addition to those places there’s also a “Refugee Olympic team” consisting of two judoka members of the delegation added to the list and one more athlete coming from Syria.

Yolande Bukasa Mabika will represent the first ever Olympic refugee team at Rio 2016 in August. She is a judoka from Bukavu, one of the regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

These athletes will be representing 114 countries over 5 continents. It’s also worth noting that three nations will be represented by a full team consisting of 7 women and 7 men: Japan, France and Brazil while 27 countries will have a minimum of 5 athletes.
