Gigi Paiva Believes Roger and Buchecha Clash Is Unparalleled

Through the modern history of grappling there were quite a few notable matches. However the original clash of Buchecha and Roger Gracie at Metamoris might just take the cake. To remind you since then Buchecha caught up with Roger’s World titles. But Gracie is no slouch, he’s been impressing the world over at ONE championship.

Roger Gracie is excited:

Its almost time. 5 days left to the big day. After so long away from JJ I can’t wait to step on the mats to the battle of generations. It’s all or nothing! Let’s go!

To help prepare for the redux of the clash Roger has enlisted the help of Alliance headmaster and co founder Alexandre Gigi Paiva. Paiva told jiu-jitsu style:

“This is an amazing fight for jiu jitsu,” says Paiva. “Buchecha is younger, he’s world champion from a few weeks ago, so maybe he comes in a little bit more ready. But, man, if Buchecha makes a mistake, Roger will take it. For me, my opinion, when you have a fight like this, between two amazingly talented guys, it’s all about who can make the least mistakes. I believe whoever does that wins the fight.”

On the other hand Buchecha has been hitting the weights big time:

Given his age it’s hard not to imagine his advantage being superior conditioning in addition to good technique.

Gracie Pro is also set to feature Tayane Porfirio. She told Tatame:

“My participation in Gracie Pro was unexpected, I did not expect it. I was invited by Kyra (Gracie) and I was very happy to receive a message to participate in an event of her. I see that the World Cup should be two years here and two years in the United States. There are many people who can not travel abroad and have a lot of Brazilians who have not seen and who have great chances to be world champion but do not have the opportunity to fight outside. I think Gracie Pro will give enough visibility to this and will grow a lot, because they are the Gracies (laughs), the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu. It is worth fighting in this championship”
