Gabi Garcia Set To Make Debut In Shoot Boxing As She Prepares For ADCC & Rizin

It has been quite a busy year for Gabi Garcia. In addition to fighting 3 times in MMA she’s decided it’s time to go all out on all fronts – including something she’s been heavily criticized for in the past- striking.

According to Garcia herself she will be making her debut in Shoot boxing. This is a martial art that has its origins in kickboxing. It allows for standing submissions. Shoot Boxing is also a stand-up fighting. promotion company based in Tokyo, Japan. Shootboxing allows kicks, punches, knees, elbows, throws, and standing submissions (chokeholds, armlocks and wristlocks).

Garcia has been working for quite a while beside Cris Cyborg on everything from bjj to boxing.

According to tatame sources:

Gabi has confirmed that she will fight at the Japanese Shoot Boxing event, which will be held next July 7 at Tokyo Dome Hall. The Brazilian will compete for Girls S-Cup, which is characterized by the rules in the standing fight, in which the falls are valid, however, the fight on the ground is not allowed. It is worth mentioning that the gaúcha will still have its opponent defined to fight in the event in question.

In the same month of July, but on the 30th, Gabi Garcia will have another challenge in Japan, this time in MMA. Her next Rizin opponent has yet to be announced.

Of course this is all going on prior to the ADCC 2017 for which Gabi confirmed her attendance and was one of the first to receive an invite.

Do you think shoot boxing can help her improve her stand up?
