BJJ Black Belt Hal MacDonald helps Police officer Detain Suspect Following Scuffle

It seems like every day we hear about a jiu-jitsu student that has found themself in a position to assist a member of the Law Enforcement.

The latest case was Rodrigo Resende Academy Black Belt Hal MacDonald who has assisted Royal Canadian Police following an incident.

Hal has been a blackbelt since December of 2016

Here’s how MacDonald described the scuffle:

I hear from people how ineffective Jiu Jitsu would be in a real situation. Driving to work this morning 6:30 AM , I slowed down an RCMP car was ahead parked with lights on. I look in the ditch, the officer is underneath a big guy , rolling in the ditch, a fight is on, the officer clearly is in over his head.

I pulled over, ran in, applied a shoulder lock, dragged big boy to the ground, knee on belly, scramble ensued, ended up with my knee in the back of his head and my hand wrapped in his belt. At this point I was In total control. Put crackhead boys arm behind him, told the officer , you should cuff this ass so I am not late for work.

Officer shook my hand , gave me a hug and was clearly very grateful. I have never been afraid to step up and help someone in trouble but this was surreal. I have never been more confident in the applied art of Jiu Jitsu as I was today.

Real life, situation was handled quickly and effectively, No one injured. Thanks for teaching me ARTE SUAVE Rodrigo Resende Manuel Elias Aragon Rob Thompson Steve Bartley
